EU Testing Services

PCR-based methods are also in use in Europe. The following laboratories have been provided with the JRC/CRL-verified PCR-based methods. Following an EU Commission decision on September 5th 2006, amended on 6th November 2006 (EU Commission Decision 2006/754/EC amending Decision 2006/601/EC published in the Official Journal of the European Union - L306/17, Volume 49, dated November 7th, 2006), to test rice imports from America into European markets, laboratories and importers should comply with the EU directive on sampling while continuing to use the validated PCR-based method.

Note: For purposes of clarity on your orders, when contacting any of these EU commercial laboratories for rice analysis, please ensure that you mention to the laboratory exactly which test you wish to have undertaken.

There are also a number of affiliates of the EU testing laboratories who are acting as collecting centers. These laboratories have not been validated by Bayer CropScience to perform the PCR-based testing methods.

Please be aware that with respect to rice entering the European Union, EU Commission decision 2006/754/EC amending Decision 2006/601/EC requires different sampling procedures from those employed in the methods validated by USDA. Due to these differences in sampling procedures, there can be no guarantee that rice that has tested negative using the USDA-validated procedures will also test negative using the procedures outlined in the above mentioned EU Commission's decision
