Commercial Testing Services Available to the Rice Industry

The USDA Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) have verified methods for testing rice grain for the presence of LLRICE601. Two PCR-based methods have been made available by Bayer CropScience to commercial laboratories for use by the rice industry – specifically for U.S. rice exporters dealing with sensitive international export markets.

Two ELISA-based Lateral Flow Strip Tests, developed by external parties, have also been verified by GIPSA.

In addition to working with U.S. laboratories at point of export and in order to assist the rice industry in responding to customer needs, we are also working with several governments and their official laboratories providing technical expertise and guidance when requested.

Rice producers/exporters should work closely with their customers to define the specific market requirements of the importing country.
