Nunhems’ Intense™ nominated for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2008

Nunhems new tomato concept Intense™ among the 10 most outstanding innovations of the year
Monheim, December 20, 2007 – Nunhems’ Intense™ tomato has been nominated for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2008. Messe Berlin and Fruchthandel Magazine grant this award for outstanding innovation in the fresh produce sector and its service industries. As nominated for the award, Intense™ will be presented to the visitors of Fruit Logistica in a special exhibition area, from February 7 – 9, 2008 in Berlin.

Nunhems’ Intense™ tomato is a full-flesh tomato with a higher density, which does not lose its juice. The high density of Intense™ makes it a convenient tomato for slicing, dicing and cutting in any other form without losing its shape. The ability to retain the juice results in a lasting fresh appearance after cutting. These characteristics, together with the deep red color make Intense™ a very convenient tomato for fresh salads, pizza toppings, wraps, sandwiches or as a cooking tomato.

With Intense™, tomato becomes an attractive and cost-effective part of everyday pre-cut salads and meals eaten in or out-of-home.

Tomato is already one of the most important crops for Nunhems, the vegetable seed business of Bayer CropScience. The company’s expert approach is recognized by Unilever, with whom Nunhems co-develops processing tomato varieties on taste, nutrition and health. Besides these traits Nunhems’ focusses its breeding also on yield and labour saving characteristics. Intense™, Nunhems’ important innovation for the fresh market and food service, creates a break-through in the market for fresh tomato. For further information go to www.intensetomatoes.com
